Morpheus, originally named after the ancient Greek God of Dreams, is a versatile P2P application that enables users to download files in a multiple of formats, including Gnutella, eDonkey, and Bittorrent. You can use Morpheus to download podcasts and import your downloaded music files automatically to iTunes.

The latest version changes the user interface and makes it harder to use the program. This is because the designers of the program tried to change the P2P client into a complete multimedia application, but in adding too many features to the software, lost the easy to navigate interface. Download the previous versions of Morpheus to get the older version of the user interface, which does not hide the chat tool and progress bar from the view of the user when downloading podcasts.

The older versions of Morpheus have an easier to navigate user interface, with icons and buttons found in a logical order. The previous versions of Morpheus provide all the features of a good P2P client, without the dramas in trying to navigate around unnecessary features on the screen.

Morpheus needs a Windows operating system and you can download older versions of Morpheus that are compatible to Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003. You do need a media player to play the songs and audio files you can download through the Morpheus software.

Parents appreciate the parental control system that enables parents to block websites with designated hazardous terms to prevent children from downloading violent, pornographic, or inappropriate material from websites or the P2P networks.

Note:  As of April, 2008, the company that publishes Morpheus, Streamcast, is no longer in existence. Because of that, new versions of Morpheus have not been released and www.morpheus.com is no longer available.
